About this audiobook

An old donkey, no longer strong enough to carry sacks, runs away before his master can be rid of him, deciding to go to Bremen and become a musician. Along the road he meets a worn-out hunting dog, an old cat past mousing, and a rooster about to become Sunday dinner — and invites each to join him; they'll all make music in Bremen. Night falls before they arrive, and they spy a lighted house in the woods full of feasting robbers. Hungry and homeless, the four animals devise a plan: they stack up — dog on donkey, cat on dog, rooster on top — and let loose all their 'music' at once through the window. The unearthly racket and the shadowy monster-shape send the robbers fleeing into the night, and the four friends take the warm house for themselves.

Why it's worth a listen

A donkey, a dog, a cat, and a rooster — each cast off as too old to work — set out together to become musicians in Bremen, and never get there. Instead, one dark night, they stack themselves into a tower of animals in a window and scare a band of robbers clean out of a cozy house. A warm, funny fairy tale about friendship, second chances, and being far more than the world thinks you are.

A question to keep

When the world says you're too old to be useful, what can you still do — especially together?
