About this audiobook

A cyclone carries Dorothy and Toto to Oz, where her falling house lands on the Wicked Witch of the East and frees the Munchkins; the Good Witch gives Dorothy the dead witch's silver shoes and sends her down the yellow brick road to the Emerald City to ask the great Wizard for a way home. On the way she frees the Scarecrow from his pole, oils the rusted Tin Woodman, and befriends the Cowardly Lion, each hoping the Wizard will grant his wish. The Wizard demands they first destroy the Wicked Witch of the West; Dorothy melts her with a bucket of water, only to discover the Wizard is a humbug — a little man behind a curtain — who nonetheless gives each friend proof of what they had all along. Then, with a click of the silver shoes, Dorothy carries herself home to Aunt Em.

Why it's worth a listen

A cyclone lifts a Kansas farm-girl and her little dog clean off the prairie and drops them in a land of witches, talking scarecrows, and a humbug wizard — and all Dorothy wants is to get home. Along the yellow brick road she gathers the three most beloved companions in children's books: a Scarecrow sure he has no brains, a Tin Woodman aching for a heart, and a Lion desperate for courage — each of whom, of course, already has exactly what he longs for. And it turns on the question this telling leaves you with: what if the brains, the heart, and the courage you keep searching for were already yours all along?
