About this audiobook

Peter Pan and the fairy Tinker Bell slip into the Darling nursery to fetch Peter's shadow, and soon Wendy and her brothers are dusted with fairy-dust and flying to Neverland to be a mother to the Lost Boys. There they meet mermaids and the Indian princess Tiger Lily — and Captain Hook, whose right hand a crocodile ate along with a ticking clock, so he hears his own death coming. Hook captures the children and Wendy on his ship, Peter storms aboard, and the crocodile finally gets the rest of him. Wendy takes the boys home to be adopted, but Peter will not stay; he flies back each spring — until one spring he forgets, and Wendy has grown, and it is her daughter he carries off instead.

Why it's worth a listen

One night a boy who ran away the day he was born flies into the Darling nursery looking for his lost shadow — and carries Wendy, John, and Michael off to Neverland, a child's whole imagination made into an island of pirates, mermaids, and Lost Boys. It is thrilling and funny and, at the very end, quietly heartbreaking: the crowing joy of Peter and the fearful glee of Captain Hook, and then the open window Wendy leaves lit for a boy who keeps forgetting to come back. And it turns on the question this telling leaves you with: would you really want to stay young forever, if it meant no one could ever hold on to you?
