Poor Geppetto carves a puppet, Pinocchio, who is mischievous from his first breath — kicking, running off, ignoring the Talking Cricket's good advice. Sold his schoolbooks by love and tricked out of his gold coins by a sly Fox and Cat, Pinocchio tells lies that make his nose shoot out in branches, and only the Blue Fairy keeps saving him. Lured to the Land of Toys with his friend Lampwick, he idles until his ears grow long and he turns into a donkey. Escaping at last into the sea, he is swallowed by an enormous Dogfish — and there, deep in its belly, he finds Geppetto, alive. Carrying the old man out on his back, working and studying and putting others first at last, Pinocchio wakes one morning to find himself a real, live boy.
