About this audiobook

Jason is promised his rightful throne if he can bring back the Golden Fleece from the far kingdom of Colchis. He builds the ship Argo and gathers a crew of heroes, and together they survive clashing rocks, harpies, and storms. But at Colchis the king sets impossible tasks — plough a field with fire-breathing bulls, sow dragon's teeth that spring up as armed warriors — and Jason can only do them with the help of the king's daughter Medea, a sorceress who loves him. She even charms the sleepless dragon so he can seize the Fleece. The victory is entirely shared; whether Jason remembers that is the story's shadow.

Why it's worth a listen

Before any other quest, there was the Argo: a ship crammed with the greatest heroes of the age — including Heracles and Orpheus — sailing past clashing rocks and fire-breathing bulls to steal a golden fleece guarded by a dragon that never closes its eyes. The original team-adventure, won only with the help of a princess whose magic the story too easily forgets.
